The Scuderis in Flagstaff
4:42 PM
My boyfriend's parents visited from California for Saturday through Monday, and left today (Tuesday). I'm really sad they had to leave to go home because I've actually missed them quite a lot. Jeremy's parents are really great...actually, his brother is really great too, haha. But his brother is that stereotypical straight-out-of-high-school young adult who wants their freedom and independence and thinks their parents are nerds.
He'll grow out of it, ha.
Anyway, I had a ton of fun while Jeremy's were here. I missed them a lot and I hope I get to go back to California soon and go on more adventures in California that maybe now that I have a blog, I can report here. Hopefully I can start having adventures in Arizona to report and record soon, too. Unfortunately adventures often cost money...sigh.
His parents got in really late Saturday, so we didn't see them for too long. They stopped by our apartment to let us know they were safely here in town, and they visited with us for a while. Asked how we were, how school was going, and the like. I felt really uncomfortable for a while and awkward because they asked about my precalculus class (which I am failing), but they were really understanding about how I was handling the summer math class and they were impressed with me taking a summer math class anyway. So they didn't seem to judge me at all for failing, which was a total relief. Because I hate telling family—whether my own family, extended family, or someone else's family—that I'm failing anything, at all. They also visited our kittens and got to know them. Jeremy's mom, Indira, was extremely excited because she hasn't had cats of her own since she was younger. Jeremy's father, Rick, is allergic but he took medicine and handled them pretty well the entire time they were visiting. Ghost was overall really friendly with them. Magnus was a bit indifferent, but well-behaved.
The first night, Saturday, we went shopping with Jeremy's parents after they went on a hike in the afternoon and stoked up on some groceries. Then the four of us came back to the apartment and relaxed with the cats until six when we all went to dinner at a Flagstaff steakhouse called Black Bart's. The place is known for their steak and their singing waiters. It was an interesting experience, considering it was the first time I had ever been. Indira noted that the singing waiters didn't sing quite as much the last time she had been to the restaurant. The singing is really constant, and makes it hard to have dinner conversation...but considering it was my first time, I didn't mind it much. It was fun and amusing. It's not something I would recommend going to all the time, though, unless you don't mind not being able to talk to those you're eating dinner with.
The Scuderis have family friends who live here in Flagstaff, the Ridleys, and their middle son, Evan, actually works at Black Bart's as one of the singing waiters. He wasn't working that night, but eating at the steakhouse was his idea because he wanted to perform for all of us. So after we were mostly finished with our meal, he borrowed a shirt and got up on stage and sang—twice! They did a group number and then he performed a solo. It was so much fun to watch.
After dinner we were supposed to go to Lowell Observatory, because Pluto was discovered here in Flagstaff at the observatory and after NASA's released images all sorts of Pluto stuff has been going on, but the Scuderi family friends read the times of the operation hours incorrectly by going off of google rather than the observatory website and it turns out at the time we were going to go, they were already closed. So instead of going to the observatory we all came back to the apartment and played with the kittens again. The Ridley's really loved Ghost and Magnus. Magnus was still indifferent. Ha.
Yesterday, their last day in Flagstaff, we went and visited my parents at our summer home in Munds Park—located about 20 miles outside of Flagstaff. Indira and Rick caught up with my parents while I spent time with my old cat, Diamond, and some off time with my mom. Everyone talked and chatted for a few hours and then we all came back here to Flagstaff. Indira and I dropped Rick back off at our apartment to hang out with Jeremy (who didn't come to Munds Park due to his undergraduate study he's currently doing) while we went off shopping to pick up some things we needed...like new pillows, a working air conditioner/fan since our other broke, some healthy snacks, throw pillows, and towels for Jeremy who seems to let all of the things he owns get down to the last thread before ever buying replacements...it's a cute, innocent quirk he has. At least, in my opinion.
We also went shopping at PetsMart for the kittens. We got them a dish holder, since Ghost had a habit of tipping over the water dish, along with new adult collars since they'd outgrown their kitten collars, more cat food, and a catnip squirrel toy that they absolutely love and are destroying. The poor squirrel isn't going to last long...
To top of the night, we went to visit Pato Thai (a restaurant I've actually written a review for, and one I may write a review for again!) for dinner. The place was crowded because we got there just at the peak of dinner rush, but the food and service was as amazing as the first time Jeremy and I went. We all ordered our own food, I got another tall glass of mango iced tea, and Indira ordered cold sake that she ended up sharing. Jeremy ordered hot sake and found out that he doesn't like it as much as cold, but he drank it and then helped his mom and the rest of us finish the bottle the restaurant gave her.
That was basically my weekend...the Scuderis left earlier this morning back for Santa Clarita, California. The drive is pretty long, so we most likely won't hear from Jeremy's parents for a while. I hope it's a safe and comfortable drive back. Indira and I discussed and tossed ideas around for visiting during winter vacation that I'm hoping work out somehow. If not, there will always be a next time...for now, however, I'm content that I got to see my boyfriend's parents. I've been bugging him all week because I was so excited they were visiting! Probably more excited than him.
I hope you all had a lovely weekend, too, and continue to have a wonderful week! Have a great day, lovelies~
